Shock

A state in which the blood supply to the tissues suddenly becomes inadequate as a result of low circulating blood volume and pressure. Causes may include excessive blood loss, widespread dilation of peripheral vessels (e.g. an anaphylactic reaction), dehydration due to diarrhea, and severe pain. Shock leads to an acute lack of oxygen in the tissues.
